As a compromise try this:

* Go to a brand that has EE (W) and EEEE widths.
* Find a minimalist shoe in the wide width.
* Wear whatever liner sock you want and a good pair of winter socks to test them on your feet. You will need to go up a full size or 1.5 to leave room for the socks.

You need extra width and length to accommodate the socks.

Don't worry about waterproof, unless you are running in slush. Once temps get below about -5 C (22 F) snow isn't going to melt much.

Sherwood Botsfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00083600475774069423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-46781882143988472862012-01-31T08:30:22.067-06:002012-01-31T08:30:22.067-06:00Good wool socks with almost any minimalist shoe wi...Good wool socks with almost any minimalist shoe will work wonders.Chris Ⓥhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14415854268293709962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-74158108644071856482012-01-31T07:27:27.962-06:002012-01-31T07:27:27.962-06:00Soft Star Run Amoks with wool socks!!Soft Star Run Amoks with wool socks!!will Kimbroughnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-44521326466262694692011-12-26T11:19:25.637-06:002011-12-26T11:19:25.637-06:00vivobarefoot neo trailvivobarefoot neo trailyrochttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15583684805250372882noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-54930147662356681852011-09-09T07:34:20.118-05:002011-09-09T07:34:20.118-05:00Krisjand,

Anything that puts another layer between you and the weather should help insulate from the cold. I run in the Bikila and TrekSport (slightly warmer and heavier than the Bikila or KSO).Chris Ⓥhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14415854268293709962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-26605608938344665432011-09-08T01:38:56.463-05:002011-09-08T01:38:56.463-05:00I am in Germany and facing the same problem. Most other 0-drop shoes seem to be very open. I think I might try the VFFs with some running, anti-chafe gel. This was mentioned in "Born to Run" to help with wetness from rain and puddles.

Thoughts?Krisjandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05940857000150962299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-27253450356124167582011-06-28T07:15:45.353-05:002011-06-28T07:15:45.353-05:00Thanks for your recommendation,I will find review ...Thanks for your recommendation,I will find review on each brand so that I can find the best comfortable shoes I need.kids crocshttp://www.kidscrocs.org.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-7423535723168180982010-11-23T13:35:31.167-06:002010-11-23T13:35:31.167-06:00Taylor,

I'm glad you can run in the Bikilas all the way down to that low of a temperature. I think the key is to hang in there until the blood circulation really gets flowing into the feet.Chris Ⓥhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14415854268293709962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-977732521329633872010-11-23T09:41:35.037-06:002010-11-23T09:41:35.037-06:00Hey Chris,

It was a brisk -29C (about -20F) with half an inch of fresh snow. On my feet I had my bikilas with a pair of injinji socks and all was well. Actually I turned around after 10 minutes because I could feel a couple of my toes getting really cold and I was worried I'd be too far from home if they got really bad.. but by the time I got home the blood circulation had improved significantly and I was feeling fine. I even stayed outside to shovel the sidewalks before going in :)Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07657083144762016585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1022566277176976821.post-91903466558499321412010-11-09T16:49:55.180-06:002010-11-09T16:49:55.180-06:00Joshua,

Heck, I'm happy to add the toe socks for extra warmth. I should be fine as long as we don't have much of that sub-freezing slushy crap.

Judy,
Was that guy running naked in the arctic? I guess I can wear warm clothes and slap on my FiveFinger shoes and be just fine in Illinois!
