My Marathon Shoe

I have a marathon this weekend. It'll be my 102nd ultra/marathon. I'm very experienced with these long events, but this weekend's race is a little different. I'm trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon! I need a sub 3:30 finish. I've trained fairly well, picked a fast course, and am currently tapering so I'm ready come Sunday morning. Not many choices left for race day. Dinner night before? Probably pasta with veggies and marinara sauce. Breakfast race morning? Yogurt, banana, toast, and coffee. Fuel during the race? GU gels and Run Gum. Race shoes? Skechers GoRun Ride 5!

For the last 3 years, I've basically been a Skechers runner. Their performance running line has shoes that are lightweight, well-cushioned, flexible, with a wide forefoot. And they are reasonably priced. I currently rotate the GoRun 4, GoRun Ride 5, GoRun Ultra Road, and GoUltra Trail 3. I'm still not sure about the Ultra Trail (too heavy and too cushioned), but the others are all excellent running shoes. I'm picking the GoRun Ride 5 for this marathon because it has a good balance between cushioning and weight. The GoRun 4 is lighter, but I may need the extra cushioning of the GoRun Ride at the end of this trail marathon.

Wish me well. I'm getting excited...and nervous. Only 6 days to go.

Good luck man! I've loosely followed your blog for the last couple of months. I'll be there too, and it's also my first official BQ attempt.
