Race Day 2009

It's 3:29am and I'm getting ready to join my main "Mahomet volunteers" Gregg & Jeff. We'll join up around 4am to make sure we have all the race supplies and then drive over to the race site. We should have both aid stations set up and the finish area & packet pick-up ready to go by 6am. There are a few signs to slap on the trail and cones to lay on the road (Mike Martin will be joining us early this morning to assist). I heard yesterday that we will have running water at the race start! That's great news, but a little late for our race planning--we already have lots of extra water coolers that we are bringing to the race (and Gregg & Mike plan on filling them with water BEFORE coming over). Oh well. At least we can use the water if we run low and runners can rinse off after the race.

Just poked my head outside and it's freezing. Literally. Looked at my outdoor thermometer and it reads 31. Should be a few degrees warmer by race start. Same weather forecast: high of 48, breezy, and chance for rain.

I anticipate being back online around 7-8pm tonight to post a quick race report. Kelly, our running club President (and webmaster), usually posts results this evening once I have them in ready-to-display format.

GOOD LUCK RUNNERS! Have a great run and enjoy the day.

I get kind of spacey after running so many miles ... things like figuring pace and finishing times in my head become nearly impossible after running about 15 miles. So just in case I forgot to mention it to any of the volunteers, you guys were awesome today, especially in the weather. At least I got to run to keep warm.

Chris ... I will always treasure my bib number and my "Heavy Weight Champ" award. I hope I did my uncontested Clydesdale division proud! Thanks for going above and beyond ordering me an XXL shirt and showing me the loop a few weeks before the race. It really reduced the stress driving down this morning. I love my shirt ... the front is cool; the back is awesome (the elevation chart).

Thanks for putting on a great race. See you in 2 weeks at McNaughton.

Who is this Adam guy with the comment above me? He said the trail was in awesome shape. Apparently he finished before the rain. Being fast isn't all it's cracked up to be. He missed the slip and slide!

Jerry,
Sounds like you're a member of the Central Illinois team for Clydesdales. Team C.R.U.D.
We only require a weight of 201lbs plus and you're in!!
I proudly weigh in at a stealthy 240 lbs. Team C.R.U.D. never shys away from telling our weight, be proud!! Keep in mind we have a Clydesdale division at Farmdale this year so you better be getting signed up!
I did enjoy the slip and slide for a few miles, but my mother was a mudder so no big deal.
Very nice job yesterday gutting it out at the end very tough conditions very easy to want to quit(and understandable) hope you're very proud.
See you at McNaughton.
Adam

Team C.R.U.D. ... do they have a real club? Do they have a website?

Real club what the?? We don't have a clubhouse but we could use my kids if it were weight rated for over 1500 lbs.
We don't need no stinkin website, we tend to meet at restaurants.

Right now I think we are unofficially/officially a team of 5 including you. But beware all that sound coming up behind you could very well be a Clydesdale.

The reason I was asking was the group sounded "Buffalo-like" ... and that's a huge compliment. I wish the Buffalo runners were closer to Peoria. They've got organized training/fun runs and get-togethers. It would be fun to have some Clydes to train with to break up the monotony of long runs. The only thing Team C.R.U.D. is missing is a great hat! 240 pounds and sub-6 finish ... I'm in awe. I think Team C.R.U.D. needs to start a new race on a local trail ... Full contact trail running ...

I ran with Adam for a while at Farmdale last year and he said I was welcome to join Team CRUD, but I was too skinny and would need to gain about 40 pounds! If you like to eat and drink, they are your team.

We are working on hat and/or shirts will keep you posted.
Watch IVS.org we usually post under Trail Running or Ultras, the IVS's are great supporters of Clydesdales, more and more races in Central IL are adding this division.
Chris,
Stick with the pizza and that fancy beer and you may a Clydesdale before you know it.

You may be right about the weight thing and beers/pizza. My pants have been hard to button the last couple weeks. Although, if people keep pushing Busch Lights my way (instead of fancy European ales) I may lose some weight!

Off to get a large Dominos American Legend Pacific Veggie pizza...and a 6-pack.
